Using Wordpress plugins can enhance the look and feel to your blog and can also provide many useful functions. For example, you can add a SEO plugin to improve your rankings, a poll plugin to add polls to your blog, a Twitter plugin to integrate your account and blog, and many more. Here are some easy steps to find some of the best plugin options or to find something specifically for your needs.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wordpress.org account/blog
  1. Step 1

Log into your Wordpress admin area. This is your domain name/wp-admin. You will then need to enter your user name and password.

  2. Step 2

Search for the "Plugins" menu option from the dashboard. Select "Add New" to continue.

  3. Step 3

View the featured, most popular, newest, and/or recently updated plugins by choosing the link towards the top of the page. Viewing the most popular Wordpress plugins is a great place to start. There are reasons these have been downloaded as much as they have and you can also read other reviews about them.

  4. Step 4

Search for plugins by keyword. For example, if you are looking to add a poll to your blog, search for "poll" and you will be given a list and rating reviews of the available plugins.

  5. Step 5

Click on "Install" to the right once you find what you are looking for. A new box should pop up and you will need to select "Install Now" to continue.

  6. Step 6

Enter your hostname, user name, password, and connection type. This information is provided by your hosting company and should save for future installations. Also, most find that using this process is much easier then downloading the plugin file and uploading it to the server. Next, select the "Proceed" button.

  7. Step 7

Select "Activate" once the plugin is installed. This usually takes a minute or two. You can now adjust the settings if necessary and use the plugin for what is was intended for.
