How to get the BEST fit when buying a bra.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A soft measuring tape
  • Piece of paper
  • Pen
  1. Step 1

Everyone wants a bra that fits them properly. Some of like the t-shirt bras, so that you have a smooth look under your shirts. Others like a more lacy, fancy bra. That is your personal choice. Pick out the design you like best. It never hurts to have several different styles for different outfits.

  2. Step 2

Take your soft tape measure. First you must remove all your clothes, so that when you take the measurements you are completely naked. You will get a better measurement if you do it that way.

  3. Step 3

Place the tape measure, starting at the smallest number around your chest area. Life the tape so that it's right underneath your breasts. Make sure that you have it tightly fitting around your rib cage, not too tight, but tight enough to get a good measurement. After you get that measurement write it down on your piece of paper.

  4. Step 4

Then take the tape measure again and run it along the tops of your nipples. Again do not hold the tape too tightly, but tight enough to get a good measurement. Write down that measurement on your piece of paper.

  5. Step 5

Then take the tape and run it from the top of your shoulder, starting at the smallest number, to just above your breast. You should stop the tape just where you start to feel or notice that there is fatty tissue.
Do this on BOTH sides, because your measurements could be different. MAKE SURE that you are standing straight up, back straight when you're doing these measurements. Write those both down on your piece of paper.

  6. Step 6

Some people will feel that they're a B cup, when in fact they're really an A cup, or should be buying an A cup. Or they might think that they're an B cup, when in fact they should be buying a bigger cup, a C cup. You will know what you truly are after you take your measurements. Plus even more so after you take the rest of my steps after you start trying on some bras. Do not be afraid to buy different ones, take them home, and try them all on at home. You can always return them if you do NOT remove any of the tags, and keep your receipt.

  7. Step 7

After you've put your choice for a bra on, lift your arms way up in the air. If your breast slips underneath the cup of the bra, then you need a bigger cup size.

  8. Step 8

If you decide to buy an underwire bra, and it's pinching under your arms, then you need a smaller cup size. Sometimes it's helpful to just try on an underwire bra, even if you're not buying one to determine this.

  9. Step 9

When you stand up straight, if your bra does NOT lay flat to your body, then it's not fitting properly. From the strap to the center of your bra it should be flat, no gaps. So many women think that the bra should be loose so that it's more comfortable for them. That is NOT the case. A bra is designed to hold you in, support your breasts. Sorry to say, but it's not suppose to be all that comfortable. Support and lift, that is what it's suppose to do.

  10. Step 10

The back part of your bra should be even (level) with the bottom of your bra (where your breasts are). If the bra straps are not doing this, then you need a smaller width, band (or it could be possible that you should try a bigger cupn - if you have not yet taken the steps above that I've mentioned to correct this). Most woman raise up the straps so that they're too tight, or lower them so that the straps fall off. Your straps should stay in place. If they're not doing this, then you need to fix that problem.

  11. Step 11

If you take all these steps you should be able to find a GREAT fitting bra, one that works well for you and your breasts. Remember that bad fitting bra can cause serious problems. You can have back and shoulder pain from the pulling of your breasts, the muscles in your shoulders, neck and back. Good luck, and don't be afraid to try, try, try. You may have to try on A LOT of different bras before you find one that works for you. It's not about the cost, it's about how that bra fits you the best. Good luck in your search for a better fitting bra!
