A flip throw-in allows you to turn a basic restart of play into an offensive tactic by shooting the ball back into play like a cannon.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soccer Balls
  • Soccer balls
  1. Step 1

Grasp the ball with both hands on the sides of the ball so your thumbs almost touch.

  2. Step 2

Stand 15 to 20 feet away from the touch line.

  3. Step 3

Begin running with a burst of speed, taking no more than three or four steps.

  4. Step 4

Plant the ball on the ground.

  5. Step 5

Flip your legs up as you plant the ball to complete a front handspring.

  6. Step 6

Use your momentum to fling the ball as you become upright again.

  7. Step 7

    Land on your feet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice this throw-in without the ball to start. If you have access to a tumbling mat, learn on it.
  • After you're comfortable doing it without the ball, practice on a slight decline with a ball.
  • For more distance, try releasing the ball at different points of the handspring.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.

on 11/22/2005 This throw is very conditional. Make sure you try it only if you think you can. It is difficult and dangerous to do if you are physically tired. When practicing, make sure you use a fully inflated ball. A semi-flat ball will cave under your weight and throw you off balance. It's recommended that the throw is done on the opponent's side of the field.

on 11/22/2005 If you are in a game situation and you have been playing for a lengthy period of time, be sure that you don't perform a flip-throw if you are tired and exhausted. Also, remember to dry off the ball.

on 11/22/2005 This move looks harder than it actually is, you mostly use your arm strength, if you have strong arms this move should be pretty simple to land and will be pretty helpful on the field

on 11/22/2005 When you are placing the ball onto the ground during the flip, the more you extend your arms out, the more power and momentum your throw will have. It will also be easier to land.
