Step 1
Start writing early. Nothing is worse than trying to write the speech at the last minute when you have a million other duties to attend to for the bride.
-
Step 2
Look for inspiration in favorite memories of the bride and her soon to be husband. Take some time to look at a photo album or videos of happy times with the couple.
-
Step 3
Resist the urge to make the toast one big story about your relationship with the bride. While you should mention how you know the bride, the toast should be about the couple and their relationship.
-
Step 4
Be funny, but not crude. It is totally acceptable to make jokes about the bride's poor housekeeping skills when you were roommates, but keep it tasteful. Stories about all the losers she dated or the time you two got drunk in Cancun should have been reserved for the bachelorette party.
-
Step 5
Relax. Even if you are afraid of public speaking, just focus your attention on the person you are there for-the bride-and you will feel better
