Gluten free cereal can cost twice as much as regular cereal. If you live in a house of cereal lovers this can start to get expensive. Children love to snack on dry cereal and can go through a box in a day.

Save money by making your own gluten free cereal. The recipe is pretty easy and you know exactly what's in it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 cups gluten free flour
  • 1/2 cup coconut flour
  • 1/4 cup flax seed meal
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  1. Step 1

Turn your oven on to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Let the oven heat up while you mix the ingredients.

  2. Step 2

Mix the dry ingredients of the gluten free cereal in a large mixing bowl. Combine 3 cups gluten free flour, 1/2 cup coconut flour, 1/4 cup flax seed meal, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, 1 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt in the bowl and mix them together well.

  3. Step 3

In another bowl, mix 2 cups of buttermilk and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract together well.

  4. Step 4

Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Mix the dough well. The dough for your gluten free cereal should be soft like cookie dough.

  5. Step 5

Spray a large baking sheet with no-stick cooking spray.

  6. Step 6

Spread the dough in a thin layer on the baking sheet.

  7. Step 7

Put the baking sheet in the oven and bake it for 15 minutes. Once the dough is golden brown on one side flip it over and cook for 10 to 15 minutes longer on the other side.

  8. Step 8

Remove the gluten free cereal dough from the oven and let it cool for a few hours.

  9. Step 9

Preheat the over to 300 degrees.

  10. Step 10

Break the dough into small pieces. You can do this by hand or put it in a food processor to break it up.

  11. Step 11

Put the pieces in a single layer on a few cookie sheets.

  12. Step 12

Put them in the oven and bake them for 10 to 15 minutes until they're crispy.

  13. Step 13

Remove them from the oven and let them cool.

  14. Step 14

Mix 1/2 cup of slivered almonds and 1/2 cup dried cranberries with the cereal.

  15. Step 15

Store your gluten free cereal in large resealable plastic bags.
