As many home cooks know, a round steak is anything but tender. It is a less expensive cut of beef, but usually a tough piece of meat. Tenderize the round steak and simmer it in soup for a melt-in-your-mouth meal. Serve over mashed potatoes. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Meat tenderizer hammer
  • 2 cans cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can beef broth
  • 1 package onion soup mix (optional)
  • 1 can mushroom pieces (optional)

Instructions

      Cut the round steak into portion-sized pieces and trim the fat away from the ends. Using a meat tenderizer hammer, beat each side of the pieces thoroughly.

      Add a splash of oil to a large skillet placed over medium heat. Brown each side of the round steak and remove from the pan.

      Rinse out the pan and add 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup and a can of beef broth. If you like, sprinkle in a package of onion soup mix and a can of mushroom pieces. Stir the mixture and then add the round steak, cover and simmer on low heat, turning frequently, about a half hour to 45 minutes.

Tips & Warnings

  • This method is also great with Sirloin Steaks which can also be tough cut of meat.
