If you want your backyard pool to last for more than one year, you may have to make some repairs.

Luckily, patching holes in a small above ground backyard pool, can be fairly simple.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pool Repair Kit
  • Scissors
  • All Purpose Cleaner
  • Old towel or shop rag
  1. Step 1

First you will need to locate any holes in your pool, while there is water still in it. It may be a good idea to mark the location of the holes with a wax pencil. Then drain your pool, and let it dry completely.

Now, you will need to purchase a pool repair kit. This is a small kit which includes 3 or more patches and vinyl cement. It can be purchased very inexpensively at your local discount store or hardware store.

  3. Step 3
Cut a patch big enough to cover the tear

Clean and dry the area to be patched, thoroughly. Then cut a patch a little larger than the size of the hole to be patched. No measuring needs to be involved, especially for smaller holes, just as long as the patch is bigger than the hole.

  4. Step 4
Cover the back of the patch with vinyl cement

Cover the back of the patch with vinyl cement. Be sure it is completely covered, especially around the edges.

  5. Step 5
Press firmly to both sides holding the patch

Press tightly on both sides of the pool for around 30 seconds, so that the patch holds firmly. Note: It may take a little longer if the patch is too wet.

  6. Step 6

And finally, wait at least 12 hours before refilling your pool!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use an old tire innertube and model cement in place of the vinyl repair kit, if you happen to have these items on hand.
