Step 1
Do a little research and discover if you have any family history that could make you more suseptable to ocular disease. Take an eye exam about every two years and take notice of and confront any early signs of vision problems such as difficulty seeing in low light conditions, frequent floaters, and double vision that may foreshadow possible vision loss.
-
Step 2
Berries such as pomegrantes, blueberries, cranberries and other dark berries contain essential nutrients for eyesight, as well as fish oil, specifically cod oil which contains DHA. Additionally the oil soluable nutrient known as lutein can be found in green leafy vegetables such as spinach, brocolli, kale and is best absorbed in combination with oils such as butter. Egg yolk contains zeaxanthin which also aids ocular health.
-
Step 3
Mild excersizes such as walking help prevent macular degeneration in persons over the age of 25. Logic would imply that using your eyes actively keeps them healthy. Research "eye excersices" which could potentially strengthen your eye sight if practiced over time.
-
Step 4
Wearing the proper eyewear when appropriate should always apply. When purchasing sunglasses always look for UV protection otherwise they are virtually useless. Reading and other specialized glasses such as those for computers should be comfortable and reduce eye strain for the activity they are aiding.
-
Step 5
Taking short breaks from the computer or television is essential. Try to take 15 to 20 second breaks, perhaps during a commercial or after completing a task and focus on some a distant object other than the screen will help reduce eye strain.
