Things You'll Need:
- water
- vinegar
- lemon
- Dawn
-
Step 1
You need to start by washing your dog with a good flea shampoo, and you won’t believe what is the best one to use.
Believe it or not Dawn is the best flea shampoo I’ve ever used . It kills the fleas almost on contact. Use it full strength just like any other flea shampoo. Lather the neck first, and then work your way down to it’s paws. The best part is that it’s safe to use on your pet and safe for humans to come in comtact with. Just make sure that you don’t get it in your pet’s or your eyes.
(Using a mixture of 1 part Dawn to 3 parts water will kill ants too. Punch holes into an ant bed, pour this mixture onto it and the ants die on contact.) -
Step 2
Your next line of defense is a good flea spray or rub on flea repellant. These are all good flea repellants, but you need to apply them often. They are safe for dogs, cats and humans to come in contact with.
Vinegar / Water Mix
Put 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup water into a spray bottle. Rub or spray the mixture into your pet’s coat. You will need to reapply daily. If your pet stays indoors most of the time, you can apply it every other day.
Lemon / Water Mix
Cut up one lemon, and put into a pot with 2 pints of water. Bring to a boil, take it off the stove, cover and let it sit over night. Remove lemons and strain fluid. Put the fluid into a spray bottle. Rub or spray onto your pet’s coat daily. If your pet stays indoors most of the time, you can apply it every other day.
Peppermint Oil Rub
Get a bottle of Peppermint Oil, the kind that you cook with, put a few drops in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together and rub all over your dog. You will need to reapply daily. If your pet stays indoors most of the time, you can apply it every other day. -
Step 3
Next, you need to get into the habit of brushing and combing your pet every day. Brush it first to remove any knots or debris from your pet’s hair, and them comb it with a flea comb. The flea comb will remove any live fleas and flea eggs.
