Step 1
Consider the gender! Sometimes parents don't research popular girl names or popular boy names, then years later they discover that there are lots of children of the opposite sex that have the same name as thier child. This is a bit more embarrassing for boys who might end up with a popular girls name. Girls can usually get away with it.
-
Step 2
Think about personal meaning when naming a child, this helps install strength, confidence, value and a sense of pride in the child's name. A good way to do this is by looking at baby name origins and baby name meaning, when looking at the names see if any of them have relevant meaning to you or your family in a personal way.
-
Step 3
Make the name relatively easy to pronounce and spell. We all know that it is no fun to be the kid on the first day of school, who's name is butchered by the teacher when taking attendance. It's also no fun having to explain and spell your name every time some asks what your name is. So be creative but be kind so that the new name can be spelled and pronounced correctly.
-
Step 4
Be sure to look at a good variety of names before you finally decide. There are plenty of baby name list available online and baby name books in stores. By doing your research you might end up finding a perfect baby name that you never had in mind.
