Chinese food appetizers are the best part of any Chinese meal. Crab rangoon is a fried wonton stuffed with a crab and cream cheese mixture. Although this recipe calls for imitation crab meat, real crab meat can be substituted.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • wonton wrappers
  • 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 1 T. soy sauce
  • 1 pound imitation crab meat, shredded
  • canola oil for frying
  • 1 cup red wine vinegar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 T soy sauce
  1. Step 1

Mix the softened cream cheese, soy sauce and crab meat. Stir until it is completely combined.

  2. Step 2

Put 1 teaspoon of crab mixture on to one side of the wonton. Dip your fingertip into water, and moisten the edge of the other side of the wonton. Fold the wonton over the filling to form a triangle. Crimp the edges of the rangoon with your fingers or the tines of a fork. Place on a paper towel. Continue making rangoons until the filling is used up.

  3. Step 3

Heat the oil in your deep fryer to 350 degrees F, or fill a Dutch oven with 2 to 3 inches of oil and heat to 350 F. Fry the rangoons, three at a time, until golden, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and place on rack to drain. Placing them on a paper towel with cause them to become soggy.

  4. Step 4

To make the sweet and sour sauce, combine 1 cup red wine vinegar, 3/4 cups sugar and 3 tablespoons soy sauce in a sauce pan. Heat to a rolling boil, and boil for 5 minutes, or until mixture thickens and coats a spoon.
Serve warm or at room temperature with crab rangoon.
