- Clean soup can
- Pan of hot water.
-
Step 1
Cut paraffin into small chucks for easy melting.
-
Step 2
can in hot water melting paraffinSet a disposable container like a clean soup can into a pan of hot water. Melt the chucks of wax in the disposable container. Once the wax is completely liquid form it is ready for pouring.
-
Step 3
After the jelly has been ladled into sterilized glasses and has cooled and set. Pour a thin layer of the melted paraffin over the jelly. About a 1/8 inch, deep layer of wax will work to seal.
-
Step 4
Grasp the hot glass with a potholder and rotate it slowly so that the paraffin will cling to the sides of the glass.
-
Step 5
Prick any air bubbles that appear in the paraffin before they have time to set.
-
Step 6
Cool glasses on a cooling rack in a draft free place. As the paraffin cools, it will harden and become opaque. The paraffin center will sink slightly as it cools.
-
Step 7
Finally, to keep dust from settling on the paraffin during storage, cover with a piece of cloth anchored with string or rubber band.

on 8/14/2009 Your article brings back memories for me. My Mom used to make apricot jelly (we had a productive tree in the backyard) and seal the jars with paraffin wax.
