There are many earache remedies out there. The most common ones are also usually the most effective.

There are three types of ear infections that cause earaches. Infections in the inner ear aren't usually painful, but make it difficult to balance. Infections in the middle ear occur just behind the eardrum and are extremely painful. If pressure is allowed to buildup the eardrum will burst and puss will come out of the ear. This type of infection needs to be treated by a doctor. Infection in the outer ear is the most common cause of earache. This is the type of infection you can use the earache remedies in this article on. There are six remedies here you can try.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Warm some olive oil in an pan to body temperature. Check to make sure the oil isn't too hot before putting it in your ear. Use a medicine dropper to put a few drops of oil in the painful ear. Put a cotton ball in the ear.

  2. Step 2

Crush a few cloves of garlic. Put it in a pan or in a dish if you're going to use the microwave to heat it up. Cover the garlic with olive oil and heat the mixture to body temperature. Check to make sure it's not too hot. Then put a drop of garlic oil in your ear. Lay on your side for about 15 minutes to keep the oil in your ear. Garlic is used in earache remedies because it's a natural antibiotic. It relieves the pain of the earache immediately.

  3. Step 3

Steam or bake an onion while still in its skin until it's soft. Peel the onion and then mash it up in a bowl. Add a little water to it if you need to. Use a medicine dropper to get the juice from the crushed onion and put a drop of it in your ear. Lay on your side for about 15 minutes. It should relieve the pain within a few minutes.

  4. Step 4

Sprinkle a little cinnamon in some olive oil. Heat the olive oil and cinnamon over the stove. Once the oil is body temperature strain out the cinnamon powder by putting the oil through a fine cloth. Put a drop of the remaining oil in your ear and lay on your side for about 15 minutes to keep the oil in your ear.

  5. Step 5

Turn your hair dryer on low on a warm setting. Hold the hair dryer about 18 inches from your air and blow the warm air into your ear. The warm air will give you some relief for the pain.

  6. Step 6

If your earache is the result of wax buildup in your ear, use hydrogen peroxide to loosen the wax. Pour some hydrogen peroxide in your ear and lay on your side to keep it in your ear. You'll hear the peroxide in your ear bubbling away. Once the bubbling start to calm down dump the peroxide out of your ear. This is one of the earache remedies I learned about from my doctor.
