Everybody loves a carnival. One of the most popular snacks found at a carnival is popcorn. The following recipe is for carnival themed popcorn looking cupcakes. They are very cute and are sure to impress your guests. They look complicated when they are relatively simple to make. They are time consuming, but the result is worth it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 36 mini cupcakes in liners homemade or store bought
  • 1 bag of white miniature marshmallows
  • 1 bag of multicolored miniature marshmallows.
  • 1 16 oz. can of vanilla frosting
  • 3 popcorn boxes filled halfway with crumpled tissue paper.
  1. Step 1

Fill a ziplock bag with ¼ cup of the frosting. Push it to one corner, press out the air and close the bag. Snip the corner of the bag about 1/8in.

  2. Step 2

Pick out the yellow marshmallows from the multi-colored bag. You will need 2 pieces of miniature marshmallows for each piece of popcorn you will make. Cut one marshmallow into three pieces, crosswise.

  3. Step 3

Lay the pieces on a wax paper lined cookie sheet in the shape of a three leaf clover overlapping ends secured with a dot of frosting and flatten slightly.

  4. Step 4

Apply a dot of frosting on top of the center of the clover shape and add the second marshmallow on top. It will look like a piece of popped corn.

  5. Step 5

Repeat this procedure until you have about 250 pieces of popcorn. Make all white, all yellow, and mixed white with yellow to look like butter.

  6. Step 6

Frost 1 mini cupcake and apply 6 or 7 pieces of popcorn on each cupcake.

  7. Step 7

Continue this until all of your cupcakes are complete.

  8. Step 8

Allow the cupcakes to dry for at least 30 minutes before stacking them into popcorn boxes.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may dip your finger in cornstarch or powdered sugar to prevent the cut marshmallows from sticking to your fingers.
  • You may make regular sized cupcakes instead of miniatures to use in a cakewalk game at the carnival.
  • Try adding some butter extract to your frosting for a real buttery taste.
