How to Make a music CD from your MP3s

Learn how to turn your MP3 files into a regular music CD.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blank CDR or CDRW
  • MP3 files
  • a Computer with a CD burner
  1. Step 1

    Choose the MP3 files you want to write to a Music CD. A blank CD can hold 80 Minutes of Audio.

  2. Step 2

    On your PC, open your CD burning Software. There are many different types of software for burning compact disks, most will give you the option to make an Audio CD. Chose the option for making an Audio CD.

  3. Step 3

    Click the option to add tracks to your CD, or drag and drop the MP3 files onto the CD burning software window. Select the files in the order that you want the tracks to be on your final disk. Watch the status bar/ guage at the bottom of the screen, it will show you how much space you have used and how much is still available.

  4. Step 4

    Place a blank CD in the drive and hit the Burn button. The software will ask you to select a burn speed option, must computers will be able to burn the disk at the fastest available speed with no problem. Check the Disk-at-once option if it is available, do not select leave disk open for future sessions. Once the burn process is finished, your new music compilation is ready to be placed in your CD player!

Tips & Warnings
  • Some newer players will now play MP3 files from a CD, this will let you put much more music on one disk than on a regular music disk, if yours will play this type of disk, just select the "make a data disk" option for your software, and follow the instructions above.
  • some MP3 files are encoded with a different type of codec, but generally if it will play on your computer it can be burned to CD, since the codec is already installed.
  • Make sure you have the legal right to burn the files to a CD. If they are purchased from a web site, read the terms of use.
  • Some MP3 files have special encoding designed to prevent them from being burnt to a CD. Check with the web site you bought the files from to see if you can purchase an unprotected version or a special plug-in for your software to enable you to burn the files to a disk.
  • Making unauthorized copies of music files is illegal and punishable by law.
