Are you interested in burning more calories?

Add interval training into your elliptical work out to burn calories.

Add shadow boxing to your regular workout routine.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Balance
  1. Step 1

This is a very easy "How to".

If you already are using a treadmill or elliptical machine to workout, all you have to add is shadow boxing to burn more calories to your workout.

  2. Step 2

Shadow Boxing is easy. There is really no wrong way to do it. You can alternate punches, left right left, or mix up left left right right. As long as you are throwing punches, you will burn more calories.

  3. Step 3

Box your way through one song on your IPOD is what I suggest:

If you do not have an IPOD or access to music, time yourself to (2) two to (5) five minutes of shadow boxing.

  4. Step 4

After boxing for the length of a song or 2-5 minutes, take a break from shadow boxing, but maintain your workout on the treadmill or elliptical.

I suggest that you take at least a full two minute break from shadow boxing before you start your next "round".

Challenge yourself .... try to go for (12) twelve rounds.

  5. Step 5

Balance is going to be key, especially on the elliptical. If you have trouble maintaining your balance, start off slow and work your way up to boxing through a full song.

  6. Step 6

Push yourself and you will definitely burn more calories than before!
An interval program, one that switches back and forth between low intensity and high intensity, seems to burn more calories faster.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you maintain good balance throughout the exercise.
  • Listening to music usually makes the time go by faster, pick some fun fast paced music to get you moving!
  • If you cannot maintain your balance, you might not want to try this on an elliptical machine because you might end up falling off.
  • It is important to stretch and warm up and cool down whenever you exercise.
