How to make strawberry cake.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. mashed or sliced fresh or frozen strawberries thawed
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 8" or 9" cake pan
  • 1 large bowl
  • 2 medium bowls
  • 1 small bowl
  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350ºf.

  2. Step 2

    In a medium bowl take fresh or thawed strawberries and mash or cut up them to your liking, set aside.

  3. Step 3

    In a large bowl cream 1/2 c. shortening and 1 1/2 c. brown sugar together.

  4. Step 4

    Add 1 egg and 1 tsp. vanilla, beat in well.

  5. Step 5

    Mix 2 c. flour, 1 tsp. baking soda and 1/2 tsp. salt together in a medium bowl.

  6. Step 6

    Alternating with flour mixture and buttermilk add to shortening mixture, stir well.

  7. Step 7

    Stir in 1 1/2 c. mashed or cut up strawberries.

  8. Step 8

    Pour into a well greased and floured 8 or 9 inch cake pan.

  9. Step 9

    In small bowl mix 1 c. of white sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon together.

  10. Step 10

    Over top of cake batter sprinkle sugar and cinnamon mixture.

  11. Step 11

    Bake for 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

  12. Step 12

    * Cake should not require frosting.
    * You may substitute strawberries with other fruits.
