Pianos can create a beautiful melody but if they are out of tune, it will just sound like noise. Tune a piano so your piano solo sounds golden. It doesn’t take a professional to tune a piano. The tools used to tune a piano can be bought at a local music shop. Though the process of tuning a piano is easy, it will take a few hours to complete.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rubber tuning wedges
  • Tuning hammer
  • Electronic tuner
  • Flashlight
  1. Step 1

Move the piano to the middle of the room to give plenty of space to work. Open the lid.

  2. Step 2

Find the middle C strings. There should be 3 strings. Work on tuning the middle string first. Place rubber wedges behind the right and left strings to prevent them from vibrating.

  3. Step 3

Hit the middle C key on the piano. Use the electric tuner as a guide. Turn the pin right and left to loosen and tighten the string. Stop when the electric tuner shows that the key is in tune.

  4. Step 4

Tune the other two strings and continue to tune the other keys until you have tuned the entire piano.

Tips & Warnings
  • Work in a quiet area so the tuner can pick up the note.
  • Don’t turn the pins too tight or you might break the string.
