Things You'll Need:
- Tennis racquet
- Tennis balls
- A sturdy wall
-
Step 1
Many tennis courts have practice wallsFirst you need to gather your tennis racquet and balls (though you only need one ball) and head over to a sturdy wall. Try not to use a wall that people will be bothered while you practice. Now we can practice hitting tennis volleys against this wall.
-
Step 2
Next, assume your standard continental grip (the "hammer" grip you use to hit volleys) and hit the tennis ball against the wall. Make sure you stand at least 6 or 7 feet in front of the wall. Start by doing only forehand volleys. Keep the ball relatively low, about waist-height or a foot or two above that. Make sure you keep you keep your knees bent, and try to get your head a little above eye-level with the ball.
-
Step 3
Try to hit as many volleys as you can without letting the ball hit the ground. You will feel your forearm muscles really burn as you hit more and more tennis balls consecutively. As you continue to practice hitting tennis volleys, you should periodically switch between hitting forehand volleys and backhand volleys. You should try to hit 50 consecutive forehand volleys, and then 50 consecutive backhand volleys. You will find that your volley power and accuracy will really increase if you are able to do this.
