Bloodstains are a relatively common occurrence. This article explains how to easily remove these stains from common fabrics: washable, white fabrics, and white cotton.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

If an old bloodstain is on a washable fabric, you must first check the label if the garment can be washed or whether it must be dry-cleaned.

If it can be washed, soak the stained piece in a strong solution of laundry detergent and cold water.

  2. Step 2

If a fresh bloodstain is on a washable fabric, soak the piece in a solution of salt (1/2 cup) and water (1 cup).

  3. Step 3

If a bloodstain is on any white fabric and you do not want to put it in a washing machine, soak the stained piece in hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide has strong oxidizing properties, and is a powerful bleaching agent (hence, its ability to remove color from white fabric).

  4. Step 4

If a bloodstain is on a white cotton, soak the stained piece in cold water mixed with a generous amount of ammonia (this produces ammonium hydroxide).

The removal of the stain by this method works best when the stain is fresh.
