Step 1
Pray or call on whatever it is you believe in. Meditate and be alone with your thoughts for awhile so you can process the event or misfortune. There is nothing wrong with crying, or the lack of tears. We all deal with grief differently, so feel free to mourn and get it all out.
-
Step 2
Keep yourself busy. Find things to do and emerge yourself in activities. Staying busy really does keep your mind off the trauma and now is the time to keep it moving and concentrate intensely on things you may have formerly neglected.
-
Step 3
Talk to someone. It might be a friend or a professional, it really doesn't matter. It's healthy to always vocalize how you are feeling and coping with someone outside of yourself. Find someone who you trust and share your heart with them and this will aid in the healing process.
-
Step 4
Write about your experiences. Journaling or keeping a diary can be very therapeutic and many people find that writing your feelings out on paper can instantly improve your mood.
-
Step 5
Break a sweat! It's important to go for a run or do something active because active people release feel-good hormones called endorphins when they participate in sports and keep themselves engaged in physical activity. Working out helps to clear the mind and it's also good for keeping your heart healthy at a time when it aches.
-
Step 6
Get a pet. Dogs and cats can lower your blood pressure and relieve stress and anxiety. They are cute companions and can help you get through the storm.
-
Step 7
Lastly, give yourself positive affirmation and believe in something. Believe in yourself and believe that better days await you.
