A traditional pound cake is enjoyed by everyone, but the addition of the chocolate really makes this classic dessert even better! It is fairly easy to make, even if you are not an experienced baker.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • CAKE
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 6 separated eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 8 oz sour cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 12 oz semisweet chocolate chips
  • 4 oz grated sweetened baking chocolate
  • GLAZE
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  1. Step 1

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour a bundt cake pan and set it aside.

  2. Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and shortening. Gradually add 3/4 of the sugar and beat until the mixture is fluffy. Add the egg yolks and beat again for 5 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Mix the flour, salt and baking soda together in another bowl. Add this flour mixture and the sour cream to the butter mixture.

  4. Step 4

Stir in the vanilla extract, 1 1/3 cups of the chocolate pieces and all of the grated chocolate.

  5. Step 5

In another bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy. Gradually add the left over 1/2 cup of sugar to the egg whites, and continue beating until stiff peaks form.

  6. Step 6

Stir 1/3 of the beaten egg white mixture into the batter, then carefully fold the remaining egg whites.

  7. Step 7

Empty the batter into the bundt cake pan. Bake in the oven for about an hour and 20 minutes. Let it cool for 10 minutes before removing the cake from the pan.

  8. Step 8

Make the glaze by combining the powdered sugar and ilk. Spoon the glaze over the cake, and sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips over the glaze.
