Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hydroponics Kit Cabbage seeds A container of suitable size Hydro culture fertilizer Polythene bag Pot Soil
  1. Step 1

Purchase cabbage seeds directly from a nursery. Grow these seeds the conventional way in a pot with soil and water. Once the seedlings are strong enough and have developed a couple of leaves, they are ready to be transplanted into the hydroponics system.

  2. Step 2

Remove the seedlings from the soil and keep them on a piece of paper. Gently shake off excess soil. Any residual soil can be washed off with the help of lukewarm water.

  3. Step 3

Place the seedling in the hydro culture pot. Spread the roots well and gradually add clay granules. These granules will provide food and nutrition to the plant.

  4. Step 4

Add water to the level indicated in the pot. There should be a line in the pot that indicates how full the pot should be.

  5. Step 5

Keep the seedlings moist for the first two to three weeks. This can be done by covering the plant with a polythene bag with holes punctured in it for air passage.

  6. Step 6

Add hydro culture fertilizer every forth night to ensure healthy growth. You will need to dissolve the fertilizer into the water first.

  7. Step 7

When the cabbages have grown to full size, harvest them by cutting the cabbage leaves beneath the leaves at the stem.

Tips & Warnings
  • While adding the granules, make sure they reach the rim of the hydro culture pot.
  • Transparent containers look very attractive and interesting as they display the root system of the plant.
  • Accurate balance of water, oxygen and a temperature of 18 degrees is essential for the survival and healthy growth of the plant.
  • Never apply the fertilizer directly to the roots of the cabbage. There may be chances of burning of the vegetable if you do so.
