Instructions

    • 1

Using a stake, mark the spot where home plate will be located.

    • 2

Mark the remaining bases with stakes, based off of home plate's placement. The paths from home to first and third base should be 60 feet each, and second base should be located 60 feet from each so that the bases form a diamond.

    • 3

Mark the pitchers mound with a stake 46 feet from home plate on a direct line to second base.

    • 4

Using spray paint, mark the base paths and circles around each base. The base paths from home to first and third should be three feet wide. The radius of base circles should be nine feet; they can be created by tying nine feet of rope to the stake while holding the can and other end of the rope in your hand and walking in a circle with the rope pulled tight. Home plate receives a full circle, while the base circles only must be the quarter of the circle which faces the pitchers mound. The pitchers mound should have a radius of six feet, centered between the bases.

    • 5

Tie fifty feet of rope to the pitchers stake and mark an arc from one baseline to the other with the spray paint. This arc separates the infield and the outfield.

    • 6

Remove the grass within the marked-out lines.

    • 7

Fill in the marked lines with clay or sand.

    • 8

Smooth the infield using the rake.
