How to Find Geocaches in Your Area

Geocaching is a global treasure hunting activity that can become addicting. Game players hide "caches" containing trinkets and record the coordinates using a GPS. The coordinates are shared via the Internet and many may be right in your area. By registering with an online geocaching site, you will gain access to the coordinates and can begin your geocaching adventure today. It's an outdoor activity to partake in with your family or just by yourself.

  • GPS
  • Treasures to trade
  • Computer with Internet access
  • Writing utensil

    How to Find Geocaches in Your Area

  1. Step 1

    Go to a geocache website such as Geocaching.com and register for access.

  2. Step 2

    Enter your zip code into the site's location search.

  3. Step 3

    Select how large a radius you want to search.

  4. Step 4

    Gather the coordinates of nearby caches and enter them into your GPS unit.

  5. Step 5

    Bring along trinkets (items to trade) to use in your geocache adventure.

Tips & Warnings
  • Print out information on each cache and bring it with you on your treasure hunt. There are often clues that will help you find the treasure. Bring a writing utensil as some caches may not include one. Log your visits both on the log book and with the Internet site where you found the coordinates.
  • Don't get frustrated when looking for an item. The coordinates do not always lead you directly to the cache, but it will be in the vicinity.
