File this one in your favorite pear pie recipe, bakers. The tarter your pears, the yummier this pie. This particular pear pie tastes best slightly warm--with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, of course.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 5 cups sliced ripe pears (tart)
  • 1 flash-baked pie shell (9")
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour (plus 3 more tablespoons flour)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  1. Step 1

Place sliced pears in the flash-baked pie shell. If your pear slices are very thin, this gives the pie the appearance of a European tart, and you could even cook it in a tart pan, if you like. Really recommended for this pie is the sugar cookie pie crust (see Resource Link Below).

  2. Step 2

Mix together the egg, vanilla, sour cream, salt, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 2 tablespoons flour in a medium-sized bowl. Pour over the pears.

  3. Step 3

Bake pie at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. While the pear pie is baking, make the crumble topping (see below step).

  4. Step 4

With a pastry cutter or fork, mix together the brown sugar, butter, chopped nuts and 3 tablespoons flour. The mixture should be nice and crumbly (cutting the butter into smaller pieces before adding it to the mixture is helpful).

  5. Step 5

Sprinkle the crumble topping over the pear pie. Bake for another 25-35 minutes. Remove from oven and serve while still warm.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you like, you can substitute tart apple slices. This makes an awesome Dutch Apple Pie.
