How to Setup Your Own Vent Server
Ventrilo (Vent) is a communication application installed on a server and client machine. Clients log into the Ventrilo server where they can communicate over the Internet. This application is used mostly in the gaming world where groups of people collaborate. It is available for Unix and Windows platforms.

Download the server executable installation file from ventrilo.com/download.php. Save the file to a local directory on your computer.

Double-click the downloaded file and follow the prompts to install the service. The wizard asks for a place to store the installation files and a license agreement.

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Ventrilo" and choose "Edit INI." The INI file holds a few settings and configurations. In the "Server" section, enter the name of your computer. Set the authentication mode in the section labeled "Auth." A setting of "0" blocks all login attempts. Setting "1" sets a global password, and setting "2" sets user-specific passwords. "AdminPass" is the setting for the administrative password. "Password" is where you set the global password for users when the Authentication level is set to "1."

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Ventrilo." Select "Install" and the service automatically loads in the background. At this point, users can connect to the computer for service. The service also automatically loads when the computer is rebooted.
