Belkin network devices allow you to set up a computer network with Internet access in your home. When you connect a Belkin router to your Internet Service Provider's (ISP) cable, DSL or other high-speed Internet access service, you will be able to share the Internet access with any computers you connect to the router. Some computers have network adapters preinstalled. If not, you can manually install network adapters on the computers. Because Belkin network devices are designed to be interoperable, you can set up a Belkin network in your home quickly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ethernet cable
  1. Step 1

Choose a router. A router such as the Belkin 4-Port Cable/DSL Gateway Router includes four Ethernet ports, will support up to four networked computers and can provide the computers connected to it with both network and Internet access.

  2. Step 2

Choose a network adapter. Network adapters are available in the form of internal network cards such as PCI cards, network cards such as PC cards and Express cards for notebooks, and USB-based network cards. A USB-based adapter such as the Belkin Gigabit USB 2.0 Network Adapter can connect to any USB-equipped computer.

  3. Step 3

Install the network adapter you have chosen on your computer. Installation instructions will vary depending on the adapter you select and will be provided in the adapter's user manual.

  4. Step 4

Connect the router you have chosen to your computer. Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into your computer's network adapter and the other end into an unused Ethernet port on the router. Follow the instructions in the user guide for the router you have selected to turn on and configure the router and connect it to your Internet service provider.

  5. Step 5

Connect additional computers to the router when the router setup is complete. Connect the computers via Ethernet cable as you did with the first computer. Computers connected to the router will now be able to access other connected computers and will have access to the Internet.
