When you decide to have children there is no instruction booklet on how to take care of them or even discipline them. Most people are clueless as to how they should start to discipline their child. There are some parents out there that believe in a good old fashion spanking but believe it or not there are other useful ways to discipline your child without using your hand.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Time out chair or matt
  • Timer
  1. Step 1

Have a spot in the house, either a time out mat or chair, where the child will have to go when he or she gets into trouble. Make sure the spot is consistant and free of distractions.

  2. Step 2

Place your child in the time out spot and explain to them why they are there and how long they will be there. A good way to determine the time is by their age. For example if the child is two years old put them in the time out spot for two minutes.

  3. Step 3

Set a time that the child can physically see. Most children think two minutes is a life time to sit in one spot but if they can physcially see the timer they will know when they will be able to go out. You can use an egg timer for younger kids and a bell timer for older ones. Let the child know if they act up the timer will start over.

  4. Step 4

Lastly; after the child's time out is up talk about what happened and see if they understand why they were put in time out. Talking to your child and being non physical will get better results then screaming and spanking.
