Baste salmon filets with teriyaki sauce and bake or grill to create a simple, nutritious meal for your family in less than 20 minutes. An excellent source of protein and omega-3 fats, salmon contains less than 300 calories per 4 oz. filet. The Japanese traditionally create teriyaki sauce by blending mirin (sweet cooking wine), sake (rice wine), sugar and soy sauce. Modern versions also may contain garlic, ginger or sesame oil. Things You'll Need

  • 13-by-9-inch baking pan
  • 4 salmon filets (4 to 5 oz. each)
  • 1/4 cup teriyaki basting sauce
  • 3 tsp. sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp. minced garlic
  • Aluminum foil

Instructions

      Heat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line the pan with foil.

      Place salmon in baking pan, skin side down. Mix teriyaki sauce, sesame seeds, brown sugar, ginger and garlic in a small bowl. Spread this mixture over the salmon.

      Bake the salmon for about 15 to 17 minutes until salmon flakes with a fork. Length of time to cook is dependent on the thickness of the filets.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can purchase toasted sesame seeds in most major grocery stores on the international foods aisle. To toast plain sesame seeds, heat oven to 325 degrees. Spread the seeds out on a baking sheet. Bake until the seeds brown, about 3 to 5 minutes. Cool before using.

  • You also can make this recipe on the grill. Put the salmon in foil packets. Cook on grill for 15 to 20 minutes.
