Things You'll Need:
- Old jeans
- Scissors
- Sewing Machine
- Heavy duty thread
- Fabric marker
-
Step 1
Measure the length of the skirt:
Try on the pants and mark the desired length with a fabric marker. Remember if you want a finished hem, you need to allow approximately 1/2". You can also use a measuring tape for more accurate, even results. Remove the pants and cut along the markings. Save the cut off legs. -
Step 2
Cut the "shorts" into a skirt:
Carefully cut along the crotch seam, separating the front of the pants from the back. You should have an inverted "V" in the skirt. Place the "V" against the cut off leg. Using the fabric marker, trace along the fabric to fill in the gap. For larger sizes, cut the pant leg open along one seam. After marking enough fabric for both front and back of the skirt, cut out the triangle shapes from the denim. -
Step 3
Stitch them together:
Matching the triangle panels together to the front and the back of the skirt, stitch using heavy duty thread, again, providing for seam allowance. If you wish to have a finished hem, measure, fold up and pin the desired hem length. Stitch hem. If you want a frayed hem, stitch fabric approximately 3/4" from edge of denim, twice around the bottom of the skirt. It will fray after laundering. Press all seams.
