Things You'll Need:
- stealth
-
Step 1
Try not to eat out. I you do, limit it a weekends or 2 times a week. Consistently eating out can potentially cost several hundreds of dollars a month. I did a bet to not eat out for a month and saved $400. This is the most significant thing to remember.
-
Step 2
If you do eat out, stick to appetizers, and don't order drinks.
-
Step 3
BUY IN BULK AND SPLIT IT WITH FRIENDS. Go on a group costco trip and purchase things such as milk, orange juice, eggs, hot dogs, toilet paper, etc. It's a lot for one person, but if you split it 3 ways you spend on average $10 a person for a generous amount that would have cost more and included less had you gone to a grocery store.
-
Step 4
Eat at home, or bring food with you. Buy groceries instead, and stick to store brands, as these are generally more for the dollar. Certain veggies are pretty expensive, so if you can buy local at a farmer's market it's the better choice. Fresher, and cheaper. Something that priced at $3 at a grocer can be .80 for twice the amount at a farmer's market. If discount grocery stores are a reasonable distance go there instead, as they offer heavily reduced items identical to items at mainstream grocers.
-
Step 5
Unless drinks are free, refrain from going to the bars too much. **** can be expensive.
-
Step 6
ONLY BUY WHAT YOU NEED.
-
Step 7
Look for events on your school calendar for free food opportunities. Parties, socials, club events, etc.
-
Step 8
When you go to fast food places, take several extra napkins and condiment packets.
-
Step 9
buy household items secondhand either at a thrift store or through craigslist. Craigslist can be an extensive source for appliances and various other household goods.
-
Step 10
Refrain from going to the movies too much. If you do go, choose matinee and don't buy the food there. Sneak something in. More than likely it will be a cheaper if not healthier alternative.
