There are dozens of commands within Windows XP that control how the system operates. Finding the right command to make corrections is sometimes difficult or impossible. This article will show how to locate a list of these commands and define just what each command does. This information is for the novice. You do not have to be a computer expert to do this.
If you have a key like the one shown in the picture you can go directly to the run dialog box by holding down the Windows key and pressing R

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Windows XP operating system installed.
  1. Step 1
    List of commands
    List of commands

First you will need to get familiar with the following web site:
    http://www.adamsdvds.co.uk/run%20commands.php/
Open this web site and find Clipboard Viewer which has a command of clipbrd. Now refer to the next step.

  2. Step 2
    Clipbook Pop Up
    Clipbook Pop Up

I use several of these commands regularly. Perhaps it would help for you to try one yourself just to get familiar with the procedure. Click on Start, Click on Run, type in clipbrd then click on OK.
You will get a pop up that looks like this which is your Clipbook or clipboard. The clipboard is the holding area where things go when you cut them. They wait there for you to paste or do something else with them. It sometimes helps to see what is in your clipboard and this is how you can get a look at it. If you send something else to the clipboard it replaces what was in there. It only holds one thing at a time.

  3. Step 3
    Task Manager Pop Up
    Task Manager Pop Up

Another handy command is the Task Manager. For this type in tskmgr and click OK. You will get a pop up that looks like this which tells you which programs you have running. If one of your programs locks up the task manager will show that and from there you can close it.

  4. Step 4
    Windows Tour Box
    Windows Tour Box

Another handy command is tourstart. This gives you the Windows Tour dialog box and from there you can get the tour.

  5. Step 5

You have the information now to be able to access the hidden mysterious world of Windows XP commands.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some of the dialog boxes you can get into here can be quite dangerous if you go deleting a lot of things you don't understand so be careful and don't take this new found wisdom too far. My motto is "If you have any doubt, don't".
