Our watermelon punch bowl!

Add a splash of color and fun to any summer time activity with your own watermelon punch bowl! This bowl is easy as well as inexpensive to make and can be used for all kinds of refreshing summer beverages!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Watermelon
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Chopstick/Skewer
  • Beer tap
  • Plastic Hose (6 inches)
  • Scissors
  • Beverage of your choice
  1. Step 1

Place your watermelon and drink mixture (anything from Kool- Aid to adult beverages) in the fridge for at least three hours or until cold.

  2. Step 2

Clean your surface space and lay out your supplies. This entire activity can be accomplished alone or with some additional hands.

  3. Step 3

Securely hold the watermelon and with your knife, cut a hole in the top of the watermelon. You will want the hole to be large enough so that you can hallow it out and remember to save the top!

  4. Step 4

Hallow out the watermelon and be sure to save the "innards" for later use or later consumption.

  5. Step 5

After hallowing out the watermelon, score a hole near the bottom with a chopstick or skewer, but not so it inhibits the melons ability to sit level.

  6. Step 6

Feed the tube through the hole you have just made. The hole should be tight, so start small and make it a bit larger if you need to (otherwise the hole will leak).

Once you have fed the tube through, cut the tube as needed, depending on the size of the melon.

  7. Step 7

Attach the tap to the end of the hose and fill with your favorite beverage!

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to obtain a seedless watermelon.
  • Look to your local wine or beer store for a cheap tap (most run about $2.95 and with tubing, can be about $4).
  • Don’t force the tube through; that could cause the side of the melon to collapse. Start small and enlarge the hole as you go.
  • Try to avoid filling the melon with anything that contains pulp or seeds; this can clog the tube.
