Jailbreaking your iPod Touch will give you certain freedoms, but it comes at a price.

It's choice if you want to be able customize your iPod Touch however you want. However, there are some drawbacks and some challenges. Read on.

  1. Step 1

    Think about whether you REALLY want to jailbreak your iPod Touch

    Jailbreaking removes certain restrictions embedded in your device. In other words, it allows you to add applications from 3rd party sources, not simply those availabel through the Apple store.

    It gives you access to tons of free themes, applications, and methods of customization, all for free. However, it also voids the warranty. Fortunately, you can easily restore your iPod Touch to factory settings, so unless you bring a jailbroken iTouch into an Apple store, this isn't a problem.

  2. Step 2

    Make sure you have enough technical knowledge to jailbreak it, and reverse the jailbreak if you don't like it.

    With the right guide, it's easy enough to jailbreak your iPod, but if you need to be at least a little tech savvy. If you have trouble using iTunes, then you probably shouldn't, but if iTunes is easy for you and you know what you're doing, you can proceed.

  3. Step 3

    Get the proper instructions
