Hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th. There is no way to know exactly how many hurricanes and tropical storms we will have each season but the experts always put out estimates and warnings.

Besides keeping your home and family safe during hurricane season you should also know how to travel safely during hurricane season.

Here are some tips to better prepare you to travel during hurricane season.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer to research
  1. Step 1

Research the destinations on your wish list for your next vacation. Some regions of the world are affected more by hurricanes than others.

  2. Step 2

Ask your local travel agent for help. They are experts and can help guide you in making your travel plans too.

  3. Step 3

Opt for the travel insurance when traveling to a hurrican prone area.

  4. Step 4

Make a list of emergency contacts and keep them with you at all times. I laminate my list so it is waterproof.

  5. Step 5

Make sure you have waterproof containers to hold your important travel documents like your Passport, travel documents, and drivers license.

  6. Step 6

Pack a bunch of empty ziploc bags in with your luggage. I put medications in them to protect them. You can put makeup or jewelry in them too.

  7. Step 7

When going away - on any trip - you should leave a copy of your whole itinerary with your family or a close friend or two.

I always email it to several people. Just in case - this way people know where you are and when to expect you back home.

  8. Step 8

Some places that are not as affected by hurricanes are:

Aruba, Trinidad, Tobago, Panama, Hawaii and the Azores

Tips & Warnings
  • Check the weather before you go on your trip. Smaller tropical storms can change into hurricanes quickly
  • Some airlines will give waivers in case you cannot fly for inclement weather so be sure to check with them
