Clean Glass and Mirrors with No Streaking

Here's a great tip on cleaning glass and mirrors without leaving streaks. It's simple and solution using one key household item that even works in the sun.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vinegar
  • Water
  • Dry Cloth
  • Newspaper
  • Bucket or Bowl
  1. Step 1

Fill a bucket with about 1 gallon of water. Add 1/2 cup of Vinegar and mix. You can also use a small plastic bowl, or pre-mix a solution and use it in a sprayer.

  2. Step 2

Damp the dry cloth in the water / vinegar solution and squeeze out the excess. The cloth doesn't need to be dripping wet, just damp enough to clean the surface. Wipe the glass or mirrored surface using a circular cleaning motion. Leave the surface moist.

  3. Step 3

Now, polish to a dry shine using the newspaper. Use only black and white printed paper for better results. Do not polish with another cloth, because the cloth is what causes the streaking. Repeat the application as needed or apply pure vinegar direct on stubborn streaks, and again polish to a shine.

  4. Step 4

Also, to help prevent auto glass from fogging and to help your windows defrost faster, apply a light layer of standard car wax on the interior side of the glass. Let dry, then polish to a shine also using black and white print newspaper.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use Rubber Gloves.
  • Store unused portion in a spray bottle for later use.

on 8/13/2009 great tips, I always hear about using black and white newspaper but thought that the ink would cause streaking... I guess I have to bow to public opinion. I like the vinegar mix idea far better than commercial cleaners
