Keep Snakes Out of Your House

I have not tolerance for snakes or spiders. They make me scream like a little girl :) Thank goodness I have not had to deal with them too much.

The worst place was when I had a lake front house in Tampa Florida. I had those black garden snakes in my screened room and all over my property. I had to enlist the aid of my neighbors many times.

Here are some tips for keeping snakes away from your house. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

The first thing you will want to do is to clear the area surrounding your house. Do not have bushes that lay right on the ground. Snakes like to hide underneath since it is cooler there.

    • 2

Move any wood piles or stones further away from your house. These make excellent hiding places for snakes and spiders. Make sure to wear gloves and to poke at the wood and rocks first to avoid getting startled or bit.

    • 3

Some people say to spread moth balls around your house and the smell will keep them away.

    • 4

Some people say to plant lemon grass. I have not tried this yet.

    • 5

Block off any openings to your house - do not leave any gaps on your doors. Use weather stripping around doors and windows.

Keep your garage closed too. Snakes love to find cool dark areas to rest.
