Things You'll Need:
- Patience.
-
Step 1
I love catching bass on top water plugs. It took me a while to figure out how to catch more fish on them. It is easier than you think.
-
Step 2
Choose whichever plug you want to use. On a sunny day, I'll use a silver colored plug with a white bottom. It resembles an injured minnow and the bass will see the plug reflecting off the sunlight. If it's a dark, overcast day, I'll use a "popper" plug. This is a plug that has a concave face and when you twitch it, it makes a popping sound and attracts fish to it. Either way, find where the fish are... look around to see if they are hitting in areas around brush or docks. If they are right up against the bank, you'll know by the crashing sound they make when they attack the bait fish in the water.
-
Step 3
Most people will cast their plug around the area and quickly begin reeling in their line. This will catch fish sometime, but this simple trick will catch even more. Bass are smart predator fish, so try this. When you cast the plug and it lands on the water... let it sit there until the ring of water goes out about 6 feet from the plug. Then ever so lightly twitch the bait. Don't make a huge jerk or splash. Many times the bass will hit it as soon as it hits the water. Other times, they'll sit right underneath it and watch it. When you start twitching it, you'll get a violent reaction! And you'll catch more.
