Ace Bandages can be easily cleaned and stored for re-use.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Detergent made for cold water hand washables.
  • Cold Water
  • A place to let the bandage air dry.
  1. Step 1

Run a sink full of cold water.

  2. Step 2

Add a SMALL amount of detergent.

  3. Step 3

Place the ace bandage in the water. If the bandage is heavily soiled or stained, you can apply a little detergent directly to the soiled area and gently rub it in. You may want to let the bandage soak in the water for a while.

  4. Step 4

Gently wash the bandage by rubbing the fabric together with your hands. Do not twist or wring the fabric.

  5. Step 5

Rinse the bandage under cold running water until the water runs clear and there are no more soap bubbles.

  6. Step 6

Squeeze the water from the bandage without twisting or wringing it out. You can also lay the flat or folded bandage on a thick towel and roll them up tightly together to remove excess water.

  7. Step 7

Let your bandage air dry flat or hung over a hanger.

  8. Step 8

Store your clean, dry ace bandage by rolling it smoothly without stretching and placing it in a zip top baggie.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some ace wraps come with a velcro closure. If yours does not have velcro or came with the little silver clips that get lost; diaper pins or safety pins work well to fasten the end. Tape can also be used to fasten it in a pinch.
  • If you have no cold water detergent; a small amount of shampoo works well.
  • Twisting or wringing the ace bandage will break the elastic fibers.
  • Washing an Ace bandage in hot water or placing it in the clothes dryer will weaken the elastic fibers.
  • Once an ace bandage is stretched out or misshapen it needs to be replaced.
