You see those double candles on a single wick at craft shows and Renaissance Faires all the time, but did you ever wonder how to make them? Here is how it is done.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wax
  • Wick
  • Clothesline
  • Clothes Pins
  1. Step 1

READY THE WAX: In separate containers (I use metal coffee cans), melt different colors of wax. You will want at least as much wax in the can as the candle will be tall, so add more if you want a taller candle.

  2. Step 2

READY THE WICK: Take your wick material and measure a piece that is 6-8 inches longer than

  3. Step 3

DIP THE WICK: Fold the wick material in half. Hold the wick on either side of the fold so that the ends continue to hang down. Dip the ends individually into the wax color of your choice and remove it immediately.

  4. Step 4

COOL EACH LAYER: After dipping the wick and removing it, allow a few seconds for the wax to cool before dipping again.

  5. Step 5

REPEAT: Repeat steps 3 and 4 in varying colors each time until the candle is the desired thickness.

  6. Step 6

LET CANDLE COOL: Attach the candle to a clothesline in a cool dry place with two clothes pins. You will want it hung so that the two ends are not touching as they dry and harden. Let hang to cool for 24 hours.

  7. Step 7

USE CANDLES: Cut the wick to the desired burning length for each candle and burn. As the candle wax melts, the drips will be in different colors from your dipping pattern. Enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the color layers are too light, repeat a dip in the same color to darken the color.
  • Never leave burning candles unattended.
  • Caution: Wax is very hot and will burn you.
