Whether you need to make repairs or to determine which parts you need to upgrade your Dell computer, you can easily find after-market materials online. If you have an old Dell computer stored away, dust it off and don't wait any longer to get it up and running. Add new memory, a video card or a better hard drive, and you can breathe new life into your laptop. Repairing your machine may be easier and cheaper than you expect.

    Determining Your Parts Needs & Making the Repairs

  1. Step 1

    Analyze your laptop using Dell.com's System Analyzer, a program that will check your computer in 10 seconds and show recommended upgrades for your Dell laptop. (See References section below for the direct link.)

  2. Step 2

    Consult the technical support department at Dell if you are not sure which parts you need. The support numbers are (800) 456-3355 or (800) 449-3355

  3. Step 3

    Visit Parts-People.com for an affordable way to get parts for your Dell computer. This website also offers to repair your laptop for a flat labor fee of $100 plus the cost of parts and shipping, and they will tackle all problems, both big and small.

  4. Step 4

    Visit dell.com/home and click the "parts for your Dell" link for hard-to-find parts. Dell Direct, through the PC manufacturer, has the biggest inventory of parts and accessories for the brand. Ground shipping is free on orders over $129.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may void your warranty if you open your Dell laptop yourself or allow an unauthorized repair person to open it. Be sure to contact Dell directly with any questions.
