Eyepins are long, sturdy wires with a loop on one end, the eye. It is considered a jewelry finding, or component. It is similar to a headpin, which looks a lot like a long, straight pin without the pointed tip. The difference is that you can attach additional findings onto the loop or eye of an eyepin, as opposed to the headpin. You can use eyepins to make earrings, bracelets, necklaces and many other beaded jewelry pieces. The simplest eyepin beading piece for a beginner would be a pair of earrings.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Decide on your bead pattern as it will fit on the eyepin. Drop the beads onto the eyepin, leaving room for a loop.

  2. Step 2

Use a small needle-nose pliers to make a loop at the blunt end of the eye pin. Clamp the pliers close to the last bead. Wrap the wire around the pliers, just past the straight part of the wire, above the last bead. Use a wire cutter to clip any excess wire.

  3. Step 3

Use a jump ring, which is a metal circle finding, to attach the loop you just made to an earring wire. Hold one side of the jump ring with your needle-nose pliers and move the opening of the jump ring sideways.

  4. Step 4

Slip the loop you made on the eyepin onto the jump ring. Now, slip the loop of the earring wire onto the jump ring.

  5. Step 5

Bend the jump ring back in place so that the opening is closed.

  6. Step 6

Add a bead or two to a short headpin, leaving room for a loop. Create a loop on the blunt end, as you did with the eyepin. Cut off any excess wire at the end of the headpin.

  7. Step 7

Open the loop you just made by moving it to one side. Attach it to the bottom loop of the earring eyepin, and push the loop back into place so it is closed. Repeat the entire process for the second earring.

Tips & Warnings
  • Needle-nose pliers and other jewelry tools can be found in the beading section of your local craft store.
