Things You'll Need:
- 1. for the spice smell these are the ingredients
- apples (any color or type), if you want a small batch then one or two will be enough, if you want to make a large batch get a bag of apples.
- apple pie spice
- cinnamon spice (either ground or whole it doesn't matter)
- whole cloves (if you cannot find whole cloves the other will do but not as effective)
- 2. for the citrus aroma these are the ingredients you will need
- A small bag of limes
- A small bag of lemons
- A small/tiny bottle of apple cider vinegar
- Apples again for which ever amount you are making
- several oranges
- tangerines
- 2 grapefruit preferably pink grapefruit but either is ok.
- any other citrus fruit you want to add is ok but these are the best
- For either of the above recipes you will need these items to continue
- water
- a knife
- depending on the amount you want to make a pot either small or large
- a stove
- a pot holder if you choose to move it to another room
-
Step 1
Pictures of small spice bottles use larger ones if needed just half the recipeFor the spice aroma: cut your apple/apples up into small chunks, add to pan, for a small pan use 1/2 of the small bottles of apple pie spice, cinnamon, and whole cloves (if using cinnamon sticks use 3 to 4 for small and double that for large pots), if making a large pot of aroma use entire small bottle. It can be reduced or added to it won't make any difference but they must be used you can add or reduce certain ones for different scents.
-
Step 2
Citrus aroma cooking, you may add the strawberries and kiwi etc but it doesn't have the kick the others doFor citrus aroma: cut 1 of each citrus fruit or if using just 3 or 4 just use two, if making a large pot full use 2 to 3 of each fruit. Add 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar. Same as with above step you may cut into cubes but for citrus it is much simpler to cut into slices and then cut into half twice.
-
Step 3
Spice aroma getting startedAt this point all ingredients should be in pot, you now need to add water 1/2 to 3/4 up in the pot this is subjective and you may add more if you need it.
-
Step 4
Spice aroma bring to a boilThen put pot with all ingredients on stove top and bring to a boil. Then reduce to a simmer. Let it simmer at least 15 mins. If you are doing this for your entire home and you are around to check it periodically you may leave it on for hours, just add more water and ingredients periodically (the ingredients should last for days). It just depends on how strong you enjoy your fragrance to be.
-
Step 5
Pot away from stove on potholderNow you may want more scent in one room in particular that isn't the kitchen, even though this is going to in most cases give the scent to your entire home, my house is quite large and we can smell it upstairs. But anyway to move it to another room after it has boiled and you have brought it to a simmer, get a pot holder or something to protect where you will place it as the pot will be hot. Take it to a room that needs it with the pot holder, place pot on pot holder in a safe area away from small children that could pull it on them and get burned or possibly eat it, and even though it is safe, nontoxic and organic it may make them sick. Then close the door and let it sit in the room for 1/2 hour to one hour, repeat as necessary.
-
Step 6
All the items sans water needed for spice aroma if anyone needs pics for citrus let me know I will email it to you.Either one of these items may be used for a very long time. At first use if you must keep the scent say in a spray bottle that is possible and you can spray it around the house, just strain in a strainer then pour into empty spray bottle. If you decide to just boil it you must refrigerate each night, if not throw it away and start new the next time you want to use it. Good luck
