Instructions

    • 1

Moisten a cleaning rag so that it is just barely damp, then wipe down the wall. This will remove dust and other grime that you do not want to stir up while sanding.

    • 2

Sand the wall with 150-grit paper, which is very abrasive. As you sand, the paint should start to peel and chip. You can use your fingers or a putty knife to help it along, but you should rely on the sandpaper to do most of the work. This way you avoid chipping the plasterboard. Remove all of the paint using the 150-grit before moving on.

    • 3

Start to smooth out the wall using the 250-grit sandpaper. In places that you had to sand very hard, you may have some indentations in the wall.

    • 4

Finish off the wall with the 500-grit sandpaper. The old paint should be gone and the wall should be smooth and highly receptive to primer and new paint.
