How to Learn Microsoft Word 2003 Icons
There are numerous icons in the toolbar in the Microsoft Word 2003 application. Using the application can be confusing if you are not familiar with these icons. You can choose which icons you want to display to eliminate some of the clutter of icons in the toolbar, so that you can find the icon you are looking for immediately. There are various resources available for you within the application as well as online to help you become familiar with some of these icons.

Familiarize yourself with the icons in the Standard toolbar. These icons represent the most frequently used functions. Here are some of the most commonly used ones.
Blank page - create a new document
Open folder - open a Microsoft Word file from your computer
Floppy disk - save file
Printer - print document
Page with magnifying glass - preview your document
ABC with checkmark - review your document for spelling and grammar errors
Books with magnifying glass - search for a term in a variety of research and reference services
Scissors - cut selected text
Two pages with writing - copy selected text
Clipboard - paste selected text
Backward arrow - undo last operation
Frontward arrow - redo last operation
Globe with chain - insert a hyperlink
Table with pencil - format a table

Button with text to the left - left align
Button with text at the center - center align

Roll your mouse over an icon to find out what the icon is.
To change which icons appear in the toolbar, go to the View menu and select "Customization" under Toolbars. In the Toolbars tab, check all the icons you want to appear in your toolbar. Remove check marks from icons you don't want to see.
