How to Blacklist an IRC Channel
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a method of online text communication. Users connect to an IRC server that is categorized by channels. Each channel functions like it's own chat room and users can join group discussions or message each other privately. Due to the public nature of the Internet, certain users may send inappropriate or disruptive content while on an IRC channel. Learn how to make a blacklist and ban instigators.

1
Launch mIRC, an Internet Relay Chat software designed to connect to IRC servers and channels. Press "Add" and a server dialog box will appear. Enter the server name to which you wish to join. Click the "Add" button again. Then, press "Join".

To blacklist users of a channel, you need to have operator powers granted by the channel operator. Of course, if you created the channel yourself, you aready have operator powers.

Review the list of users connected to the channel. In the text entry box on the bottom of the screen, type "/ban name" (without quotation marks) and press the "Enter" key on your keyboard. Replace "name" with the username of the individual that you wish to ban from the channel. This starts the IRC blacklist. Repeat to add more users to the blacklist. Banned users will be denied a connection to the channel network if they try to join.

4
Type "/mode channel +b" (without quotation marks) to view the entire blacklist you've created. Alternatively, compare your blacklist with the server-wide blacklist by typing "/stats b" (without quotation marks). This may be helpful if you are trying to determine whether to add someone to your channel's blacklist, as the user's appearance on a server-wide ban may reveal that he or she causes problems on many IRC channels.

5
Enter "/unban" (without quotation marks) to bring up your IRC blacklist for the purpose of unbanning members. Select a username to remove it from the blacklist. Alternatively, you may delete your entire IRC channel's blacklist by typing "/massunban" (without quotation marks).

Tips & Warnings
Be careful about giving operator status to other members of your channel, as they will have equal powers as you and could add your username to the IRC channel blacklist.
