How to Attract Volunteers to a Nonprofit Organization
Non-profit organizations exist to perform public services for the community in which each organization resides. Non-profit organizations exist to tutor children, plant trees, house the homeless and many other vital services. Because these organizations are non-profit, recruiting volunteers to help with the organization's particular event or office work goes a long way toward reducing costs. Volunteers working with the organization are usually people who receive no compensation, but perform a wide variety of duties. Several methods exist to attract these volunteers

1
Talk to your organization's board members about attracting volunteers for a particular project. For example, if your non-profit organization is engaged in a tree planting service in targeted communities, your board members can publicize an upcoming project to their allies. One of your board members may be a teacher who can alert students on campus that your organization needs volunteers to plant trees.

2
Publicize your event on your non-profit organization's website. Even if you are not having a particular event, but want volunteers to work in your office, you should still place this information prominently on your website. People who visit your website are likely to be interested in your organization's activities and be inclined to sign up if given the opportunity.

3
Publicize your event on social networking websites, such as Facebook. For example, you can create a page on Facebook for your organization. On that page, you can post the need for volunteers for an event or for general help in your office. Invite your friends, family and interested allies to join the page on the social network that you use.

Call your local radio station to let them know about an upcoming event that you need volunteers for. Radio stations routinely make gratis announcements on behalf of non-profit organizations that perform a public service. Be sure to find out when the station plans to mention your event on their air, if you receive approval from the station.
