Before painting, you must prep the room by protecting furniture, removing anything in the way, and ensuring that nothing will get splattered with paint.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1
    Remove covers
    Remove covers

    Using the screwdriver, remove any covers from air conditioning and heating vents to ensure that they will not get paint splattered. If there is a thermostat in the room, cover it with masking tape to protect it.

  2. Step 2

    Remove any other hardware on the windows, doors, and anywhere else that you plan to paint. Make sure that you keep track of all the pieces that you remove.

  3. Step 3
    Take out nails in the wall

    Check the walls for any nails, thumb tacks, picture hanging hooks, or screws. Gently remove them with a hammer or screwdriver. You may need to fill in larger holes with painter's putty.

  4. Step 4
    Be sure to cover all your furniture so that it doesn't get paint splattered

    Move all of your furniture to the center of the room. Cover each piece individually with the plastic sheeting. Tape the bottoms.

  5. Step 5

    Put drop cloths down on the carpet or floor. Make sure that you don't in any paint and track it as you are painting.
