There's nothing worse than getting the office and realizing your hem is hanging! It's easy to make a temporary fix for a hem and it doesn't matter if the hem is on a shirt, pants, skirt, blouse or jacket! If you ever find yourself needing to make a quick fix for a hanging hem try these tried and true ideas.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Scotch tape or double sided sticky tape
  • Needle and thread
  1. Step 1

Sew it if at all possible. Even if you don't know how to sew, you can easily put a few stitches in, just enough to keep the hem up. Use big stitches so that they are easy to remove for a proper repair job.

  2. Step 2

Use scotch tape if you don't have a needle and thread. Seriously! Turn the garment inside out and position the hem the way it should be and then tape it into place. If you can find double sided tape put it inside the hem to secure both pieces together.

  3. Step 3

Try a little fabric glue (or maybe even Elmer's Glue if you are desperate!). Just put a small bead of glue along the hemline and then press the fabric together for a few minutes until it adheres.

  4. Step 4

Take your item to a nearby dry cleaner or tailer. Most of these establishments are equipped to do minor sewing repairs. You can probably get them to fix your hem while you wait.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to remove any tape before laundering your garment!
  • Stapling works in a real pinch, but the staples can damage the fabric so I really don't recommend it!

on 8/17/2009 I can sure relate to this. I have used tape in situations where I want to tape later. Thanks for the ideas.
